Minnesota Climbing Cooperative - Bouldering Meetup

  • Minnesota Climbing Cooperative 1620 Central Avenue Northeast Minneapolis, MN, 55413 United States (map)

What is this meetup for?

OutClimb is a a Minnesota-based organization dedicated to making climbing accessible to as many trans and queer people as possible. This includes creating a welcoming space for queer, non-binary, and trans people of all backgrounds and skill levels. Climbing is historically white, cisgender, heterosexual, and male dominated; OutClimb looks to change that by providing a queer organized and led space where folks can hangout, climb, and learn with each other.

It would be fantastic for folks to come out, climb, be queer, and learn new stuff. Anyone and everyone is welcome, bring your friends!

Finding the Entrance

The building entrance is closest to the North West corner of the building facing 18th Ave. There is a entry door near Dock 5. (Just inside the door is the bike storage.)

Once you are inside the building go down the hallway to the left keeping an eye out above the doors for the blue and white Minnesota Climbing Cooperative sign. Further down this hallway is the bathroom.

Discounts & Registration

This event is free, but registration is required as space is limited

What is Bouldering?

Indoor bouldering is a type of rock climbing that involves climbing shorter artificial rock walls over large pads without ropes or harnesses. This type of climbing has fewer barriers because it does not require the technical skills used for ropes and the only special equipment needed is climbing shoes.

First time at Minnesota Climbing Cooperative?

Fill out a waiver in advance, as part of the registration. The entrance for MNCC is on the North West side of the building near dock 5.

What do I wear and where can I change?

There are bathrooms but no locker rooms at MNCC. We suggest wearing what you plan to climb in under the clothes appropriate to the weather and taking those off when you are changing into your climbing shoes.

Normal clothes for the gym or yoga are great options to wear. The walls and climbing holds can be abrasive so consider wearing clothes that cover your knees and legs. Overall you do not want to restrict your movement, while protecting your skin, and keeping cool while exercising.

Climbing shoes can be borrowed from MNCC. They should fit tightly, but your feet (and toes) should sit flat inside the shoes.

Is there Car/Bike parking at Minnesota Climbing Cooperative?

There is car parking all around the building but we suggest parking near the North West corner of the building because this is closest to the entrance you will be using.

There is a place to hang and lock your bike inside the building.

What happens at a meetup?

We start with introductions, announcements. The majority of the meetup will be open climbing where participants and climb and mingle between sends on the mats. Your day pass is good until the gym closes.
